Short Update

We're still waiting for an MRA appointment. Dr. Haynes, the surgeon, is going to have to speak to the radiologist directly to get Aerin scheduled. That's how these things have to be done sometimes, but it's frustrating.

Meanwhile, Aerin has developed the disturbing habit of poking her hemangioma. It obviously doesn't hurt her, but it drives me crazy. She's also figured out that if she drops Cheerios on the floor near her new booster seat/high chair that Marlowe (our Shih Tzu) will come hang out near her. She only uses plain Cheerios as bait, though, never Fruity Cheerios (which I'm giving her to put weight on and which will become a rare treat after the surgery).

My mom and dad both say what really helps put on weight, what my mom recommends for patients too small for surgeries at their clinics and what they give to pediatric heart patients who need to gain weight fast, is mashed avocados. They're yummy, rich in heart-healthy oils and calories, and you can mash them smoothly or chunky, depending on what the child likes, or even give them sliced or diced as a finger food or in a fresh food feeder (available`at Target for about $3 for two, in the baby feeding section next to the bowls and spoons and cups; Emma loved them and we're about to start Bridey on them.)

It's so funny when they figure out that animals like little "treats" dropped from the high chair! Of course, it makes a heck of a mess! That's what the old vinyl or plastic tablecloth under the chair is for, right? ;)

As for the poking, do you think she picked that up from all the exams? Maybe she thinks that's what you're supposed to do with it. She's probably still doing it because you're reacting. I know it's hard not to, though, it would drive me nuts too.

Sorry for all the unsolicited advice. I'll be quiet now.

(((hugs)))
