Day 35: Five Weeks Old

Aerin is 5 weeks old today. She had a somewhat uneven day. She's having some reflux, which causes her to have short brady episodes during or right after her feeds. Fortunately, those are her only symptoms - she's digesting everything beautifully, no vomiting, coughing, excessive crying, or weight loss. It's very common for preemies (and term babies) to have reflux issues, but I wish she didn't. They are feeding her over 90 minutes, rather than 45, which should help a lot. Luckily, they won't stop her feeds for reflux, they'll just give her medication. That way, she'll continue to gain weight. I still hate when she bradys, but it's good to know why it's happening and that it can be treated. The doctors and nurses aren't worried, which is always a good thing.

Otherwise, she slept for most of the day. She woke up briefly when Andrew kangarooed her, but fell right back to sleep. She also woke up when I changed a very messy diaper.

Awww, poor baby! I have a friend who was a preemie and STILL has reflux, especially when she's pregnant. No fun. But not the end of the world, luckily!

At least she still gets to eat. And yay for poopy diapers! (Feels weird to say THAT, but you know what I mean!)
